He joined the Beethoven Philharmonic and was a member until he went to Ciudad Real to study. There, he founded and conducted the Loyola’s Boys Choir. He attended Salamanca University to study polyphony and choir conducting.
In 1969 he created his own music group called Conexion. Influenced by jazz and soul, he composed various themes that achieved a great recording success in Spain and abroad, Holland, Belgium, Canada and Latin America.
October 1982 definitely established Luis Cobos as a conductor worldwide: Luis Cobos recorded his record “Zarzuela” at Abbey Road Studios, London, conducting The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This album was a hit and made him a very popular conductor. The album Zarzuela sold more than One Million Records. Later came hits “Mexicano”, “Capriccio Russo”, “Tempo D’italia”, “Vienna Concerto”, “Opera Magna”, “Suite 1700”, “Viento Del Sur”, “Oscars”, and many others. All of them reached Platinum Status.
Luis Cobos is among the Spanish artists with many records released in countries all over the world. He has sold over Fifteen Million copies of his records. As conductor, composer and producer, Luis Cobos has worked with Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and many other very qualified international artists.
Luis Cobos has conducted many leading orchestras like: The Royal Philharmonic, Los Angeles Symphony, The Moscow Symphony, Vienna Symphony, The RAI Symphony, Spanish RTV Symphony, Japan Symphony. He worked in Spain, England, United States, The Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Russia, Vienna, Mexico, Argentina, and many other countries.
Luis Cobos has many gold, platinum and diamond Records in several countries and has received many awards for his work. In 1998, Sony Music President Claudio Condé awarded Luis Cobos in a public ceremony with Five Diamond Records because he had sold more than Five Million Records.
This was the first time that Sony Music awarded a unique artist with five diamond records in Spain. Luis Cobos has composed instrumental and electronic music as well as music for orchestra, soundtracks and television in many musical styles from jazz to classical.
He is popularly known for his work as a conductor and considers conducting his most important work, followed closely by composing.
