During the last years Juan has come being outlined like a recognized international expert in topics related to the development, the digital promotion and the new models of the music industry, being invited as a speaker and moderator in various events like Midem, Womex, Popkomm, The Great Escape and the Latin Music Conference of Billboard. He responsible for the concept and creation of Resonance, an event that brought artists and other industry agents together aiming to debate the changes of the music industry, that took place in Bogota, Colombia in September 2009 for the second year around.
Juan is Head of Special Projects and Research at the London-based consultancy Music Ally, specializing in emergent music markets, new digital business models and digital music marketing. He is also the Editor of Aliado Digital, the leading Spanish-speaking blog about music industry news. Since mid-2008 Juan has been managing the Colombian band Superlithium, nominated to the Latin Grammy Awards. He’s also a columnist in his column - blogg "Rockola Digital" and a blogger of The Time and of the digital version in Billboard Spanish.
Juan has a Master in Music Business Management from the University of Westminster, was a researcher for the international labels body IFPI and was a member of the editorial and programming team of Apple’s iTunes in London. Prior to moving to London, he worked for over eight years as a management and technology consultant in Colombia. His interest in music is not just professional as he is an experienced guitar player and used to be lead guitar for several bands in his beloved city of Cali.
